‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Has A Surprise 2.1 Patch Post-Phantom Liberty

Cyberpunk 2077

CDPR

While CDPR said they were done with major updates to Cyberpunk 2077 after the 2.0 changeover and Phantom Liberty, I suppose they didn’t say they were done with any updates. Gotta earn that Best Ongoing Game nomination, right?

In a surprise move, a bunch of CDPR folks have been tweeting that tomorrow a surprise 2.1 patch will be revealed on a stream, and it will be more than just bug fixes or they…wouldn’t be having a stream for it. The fact that it’s actually 2.1 and not like 2.0.0.3 or something indicates to me that it may be something fairly significant. We have seen full point number patches add in somewhat meaningful additions in the 1.0 era, so I’m curious what we’ll see here.

The one indicator we have about what’s coming is that the pending stream tweet says it will be “new and hotly anticipated gameplay elements.” At this point I am not exactly sure what this means, given that I feel like Phantom Liberty and 2.0 was practically the realization of all fans’ hopes and dreams, but I mean, I’m open to ideas. What gameplay elements are still missing? Romanceable Takamura? Anyway, we’ll find out during the stream which is tomorrow, December 1, at 4 PM CET.

CDPR just reported that Phantom Liberty had sold 4.3 million copies with about a 20% attach rate to the three year old game. It drove them to a record Q3, and they say it reaffirmed their commitment to develop the IP, which includes an announced live-action project to join the animated Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and a full sequel for Cyberpunk 2077.

But no, there will not be another DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, as well-received as Phantom Liberty may have been, and even if that was the original plan for 2077 if they did not have to spend two years just fixing the base game. Instead, most of CDPR is moving over to work on the next Witcher game, but Cyberpunk is supposed to be getting developed in an overlapping fashion down the road. I remain skeptical about how that will work, given the enormity of both series and the ballooning dollar and labor costs of huge AAA games, but we’ll see. That’s the plan, at least.

I will be looking forward to whatever gets announced tomorrow in the 2.1 patch, as I still have a few characters not fully 100%-ed yet after the release of Phantom Liberty, including my most recent Male V. And a 2.1 patch could mean a 2.2 patch, a 2.3 patch and so on. But not a 3.0, which I can understand.
