Chelsea are set to face Championship outfit Middlesbrough and Liverpool will play Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Liverpool earned their place in the Carabao Cup last four thanks to their emphatic 5-1 win over West Ham United at Anfield on Wednesday evening. Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and a brace from Curtis Jones secured the win for the team who are considered the heavy favourites to win the competition this season.
Unlike the Reds, Chelsea were made to work for their qualification for the semi-finals, winning a tense penalty shootout against Newcastle United after a 1-1 draw in ordinary time was salvaged by a last minute goal from Mykhailo Mudryk.
Middlesbrough, managed by Michael Carrick, ousted League One opposition in the quarter-finals – beating Port Vale 3-0 – and Fulham saw off Everton via a penalty shootout at Goodison Park.
The draw means that, provided Liverpool and Chelsea both win as expected, we could see a repeat of the 2022 final this season – a final which was the Reds won at Wembley Stadium via a penalty shootout.
The first leg of the semi-finals will be played on the week of January 8, and the second legs will take place a few weeks later on the week starting January 22.
Middlesbrough and Liverpool will be at home in the first legs of the semi-finals.
