By investing financial resources from EU funds, the Riga Psychiatry and Narcology Center improves the health care infrastructure

In order to ensure affordable, comprehensive and continuous high-standard specialized mental health care in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization and the Council of Europe in the field of primary, secondary and tertiary health care and to improve the health care infrastructure, Riga Psychiatry and Narcology Center (RPNC) on 20.09.2021. signed an agreement with the Central Finance and Contracts Agency for the European Union fund project no. 9.3.2.0/21/I/002 “Development of health care infrastructure” implementation.

The project is implemented under 9.3.2 of the operational program “Growth and employment”. within the framework of the specific support objective “Improve access to quality healthcare services, especially for the population at risk of social, territorial exclusion and poverty, by developing healthcare infrastructure”.

The project simultaneously implements two activities – “Design and construction of a new multifunctional ambulatory center” and “Corps no. 1, 3, 4, 56 reconstruction, Tvaika street 2, Riga” 1st round construction works – reconstruction works of buildings No. 3 and No. 4 (or H and F buildings, because now all buildings are called by the alphabet in RPNC).

The aim of the project activity is the development of RPNC as an outpatient and inpatient healthcare service provider, providing a wider range of outpatient and inpatient healthcare services, as well as improving the quality of healthcare services in psychiatry and narcology.

After the completion of the construction works, the dual diagnosis and eating disorder department will be located in the buildings, as well as the treatment of addiction patients, including the long-term pharmacotherapy program with methadone and the Minnesota motivation program.

Also, premises will be created for the “One Stop Agency” – which will be a support, communication and training center for patients and their relatives for resocialization needs, including social, psychological, educational, communication and employment needs, including a library and a reading room for patients with opportunities to create exhibitions of patients’ works .

It is planned that the construction works will be fully completed by the end of this year and the buildings will be put into operation in January next year.

At the moment, the dismantling works have been completely completed in both buildings, the foundations of the building are being exposed in order to renovate and strengthen them from the outside, construction pits have been dug for building extensions, in which the elevator rooms will be built.
