Bruno Fernandes has hinted there isn’t yet a definite position where new signing Mason Mount will play for Manchester United.
Mount is primarily known as a ‘number 10’, as is Fernandes. But both players are equally adept in a more conventional central midfield position, or even from the right flank.
One thing that is clear is manager Erik ten Hag now has more options to set up a team.
“We haven’t spoken about that decision. It’s the manager who makes that decision,” Fernandes replied when asked about the ‘number 10’ role.

“Both of us can play in many roles. I said this a couple of years ago, that he is one of the best players in the Premier League at the time and I hope he can do it again because he is a really good player and he is still really young – he has a long way to go.
“We are really happy to have him here, wherever he plays, as a 10 or eight or wing. We can both do that. The most important thing is that we help the team succeed.”
Having not played any international football in June due to nursing an injury at the back end of last season, Mount has been heavily involved for United during pre-season. He started as a ‘number 10’ in wins over both Leeds and Lyon, before playing in the ‘eight’ position when Fernandes came into the side for the Arsenal friendly. He subsequently played on the right against Real Madrid.
