US men’s national team figure Brenden Aaronson is set to join Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin on a one-year loan deal, according to reports from The Athletic.
After a season where Leeds United were relegated from the Premier League, Aaronson looks to be heading out the door on a temporary basis. The US international initially Leeds in May of 2022 for $30m before recording one goal and three assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.
The 22-year-old would become the latest US player to make the move to Bundesliga, with Gio Reyna (Dortmund), Joe Scally (Monchengladbach), Timothy Chandler (Frankfurt), and former USMNT player John Brooks (Hoffenheim) all currently playing in the German league.
FC Cincinnati forward Brandon Vazquez has also been heavily linked to Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach, while Ricardo Pepi is currently at Augsburg but has been linked with a move away to the Eredivisie.
Aaronson is an exciting prospect and looks to further his development in Germany like Christian Pulisic did before at Dortmund. If he joined the Union, Aaronson could link up with fellow USA international Jordan Pefok, who joined the club last summer.
Before joining Leeds, Aaronson featured for RB Salzburg in Austria and the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer.
