Bad Bunny secures his latest acting role, joining Adam Sandler in the Netflix-led ‘Happy Gilmore’ sequel.
Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasió, better known by his stage name, Bad Bunny, has landed his latest acting role as he joins the cast of Adam Sandler’s ‘Happy Gilmore’ sequel. Kyle Newacheck, who directed Sandler in the Netflix comedy, Murder Mystery, heads the Netflix-led sequel to the 1996 comedy, ‘Happy Gilmore’, in which Sandler plays a professional hockey player who finds a talent for golf and reluctantly goes on tour, becoming a golf sensation.
Returning talent from the first film includes Julie Bowen, who played Sandler’s on-screen love interest, and Christopher McDonald as a jealous golf pro and the first film’s antagonist. So far, plot details for the sequel are being kept a secret.
It’s been nearly 30 years since the first film, and Adam Sandler seems eager to return to the ‘Happy Gilmore’ universe, taking to Instagram to tease an Easter egg, alongside the caption, “It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun.”
Adam Sandler wrote the screenplay alongside Tim Herlihy, and both will produce with Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds. The director of the original ‘Happy Gilmore’, Dennis Dugan, will executive produce the sequel with Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, David Bausch, and Barry Bernardi.
Bad Bunny has hinted at wanting to spend more time flexing his acting chops, telling Vanity Fair last year, “You could say that I have been investing a little bit more of myself in acting.” The star is represented by UTA and Rimas Entertainment.
The musician previously appeared opposite Brad Pitt in the Sony action comedy Bullet Train, and with Gael García Bernal in the Amazon drama Cassandro. He will also have a role in another Sony Pictures film, Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller, Caught Stealing.
