Supercomputer predicts the final 2024/25 Women’s Super League table

The 2024/25 Barclays Women’s Super League may be well underway, but is too early to predict who’s going to be crowned champions?

We’ve seen a lot of change ahead of the new season, with plenty of new players and managers alike arriving and departing.

As we gear up for a third weekend of action, Chelsea are currently top of the table with six points, alongside Manchester United who have a smaller goal difference.

At the bottom are Crystal Palace who’ve not exactly had the most warm welcome, losing both their games against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. Everton haven’t made the best start either, as they too sit second to last with zero points.

However, luckily for them it’s early doors and so much is expected to change as we gear up for a very exciting season.

Opta certainly doesn’t think it’s too early to make some assumptions and are back with their projected winners and losers from the latest campaign.

Unsurprisingly, Opta have put the majority of their faith in Chelsea to bring their sixth WSL title home to west London this season.

Despite no longer having Emma Hayes at the helm, they still believe new head coach Sonia Bompastor has what it takes to lead them to victory. If they manage it, it would be the first time a new manager has won the league during their debut season.

Last season’s title race was a nail-biting one with the Blues securing victory over Manchester City on goal difference, but interestingly Opta don’t think it’ll be as tight this term, giving Bompastor’s side a very favourable 59% chance of winning.

This might come as a surprise, bearing in mind the signings the Cityzens made over the summer, including the likes of Vivianne Miedema. But it doesn’t seem as though Opta see them as a real threat, giving them only a 23.2% chance of winning and a 36.5% probability of placing second.

It looks as though Arsenal will clinch third spot for a second season in a row, with Opta predicting they only have a 16% chance of claiming the title.

There’s also expected to be slight movement in the middle of the table, too. Opta has tipped Manchester United to finish above Liverpool this time around, with Tottenham staying in sixth place.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, Opta has projected newly promoted Crystal Palace will avoid relegation and finish the season tenth, sitting below West Ham and just above Leicester City.

However, Brighton have come off the most unfavourable. Opta has given them a 26.6% chance of coming last which would see them relegated from the WSL.
