Childish Gambino abruptly postpones the remainder of the North American leg of his farewell tour, citing health concerns.
Donald Glover, better known in the music world as Childish Gambino, announced the postponement of the remaining North American dates of his farewell tour under the moniker to focus on his physical health.
“Unfortunately I have to postpone the rest of the North American tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks,” he wrote on social media on Monday, September 9. “Hold onto your tickets. ALL tickets will be honored for the upcoming dates in North America when they are rescheduled. Thanks for the privacy. Thanks for the support. Thanks for the love.”
No further details have been provided thus far, and representatives for Glover did not immediately respond to media requests for comment. Most likely, the rescheduled dates will take place sometime next year.
With a month remaining at the time of Glover’s post, the next scheduled date for the North American tour would have taken place in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday. Next, Glover had dates lined up along the West Coast and throughout the Midwest before hitting Chicago on October 3. The tour is scheduled to head overseas in November, finishing out 2024 in Europe before making its way to Australia and New Zealand in the first part of 2025.
Gover’s “New World” tour is part of the artist’s self-proclaimed “final project” under the Childish Gambino persona. The project includes his latest album, Bando Stone and the New World, as well as a forthcoming film of the same name, and a re-release of his 3.15.2020 album which has been remixed and reworked into the newly titled Atavista.
The “New World” show is arguably the most elaborate part of the project, utilizing complex technology, lighting, and lasers. The production is expensive to put on, and will therefore be expensive to postpone. But with the 90-minute show focusing almost exclusively on Glover for the duration, the performance is physically demanding, so it makes sense the star would want to ensure he is in top form.
