Trigger Is Making A New ‘Transformers’ Anime

Trigger will be making a new ‘Transformers’ anime.

As part of the 40th anniversary celebrations for the Transformers franchise, it has been revealed that Studio Trigger is working on a new Transformers anime.

Released back in 1984, the original Transformers was in fact a combination of two Japanese toy lines: Diaclone and Microman.

With both the likes of Shoji Kawamori and Shinji Aramaki penning many of the original designs, it had a legitimate mecha pedigree behind it.

The original Transformers also birthed the amazing animated movie back in 1986, which has recently been given a genuinely amazing 4K remaster.

In the decades since, we’ve had all manner of live-action adaptations, but the original 2D animation approach is something I can certainly get behind.

The fact Takara Tomy are going with Studio Trigger is also a very solid choice. Their mecha expertise is definitely up there, with the likes of Hiroyuki Imaishi being a proper mecha fan.

The latter shouldn’t be surprising considering that he also directed Gurren Lagann.

As for the reveal trailer (shown below) there’s not much to go on, bar some fleeting glimpses of genga and what look like Masami Obari styled Generation One designs (shown above).

What is clear is that we have a new Transformers anime to look forward to and I am entirely on board with that.

Follow me on X, Facebook and YouTube. I also manage Mecha Damashii and am currently featured in the Giant Robots exhibition currently touring Japan.
