Even more musicians are cancelling their tours this year, citing low ticket sales and financial concerns — a common problem for many artists in 2024.

It’s getting increasingly sad for fans of artists like alt-rock outfit Helmet, rockers Local H, hardcore punk rock group The Armed, and even rapper Sexyy Red, all of whom have recently announced the cancellation of tour dates amid low ticket sales.

Helmet and Local H were geared up to hit the road this fall, but this week announced the tour will not go forward, citing “a mix of significant financial concerns and lower than expected ticket sales, which is a common problem for many artists this year.”

The Armed were slated to hit the road for a month-long North American tour in September, co-headlining with LA punk-rap group Ho99o9, with DJ Haram and Kumo 99 as openers. But the band announced on Instagram that they’ve had to cancel the outing, citing various factors like “personal emergencies,” health, and weather. “The finances of an indie band across the board are quite tenuous, and often dealt with in the aggregate,” they wrote.

Sexyy Red’s headlining tour was set to kick off on August 22 in Seattle, but the show was cancelled at the last minute this week. Further, her scheduled performances this week in Portland and Oakland were also cancelled. The tour is set to resume on August 24 in Atlanta, but the lack of communication with fans about the cancelled dates has cast a dark cloud over the tour.

The slate of cancellations follows those of acts like The Black Keys and even Jennifer Lopez, whose entire comeback tour was shelved at the beginning of the summer due to low ticket sales — though Lopez claimed she wanted to take time off to spend with her family and friends. The Black Keys opted to redesign their planned tour around smaller, “more intimate” venues, but the retooled tour has yet to surface.
