Puffy is just a few years old, but the brand has quickly built up a following thanks to its softer mattresses and moderate prices. The Puffy Cloud Mattress is the brand’s firmest offering, but it still has a medium-firm designation that’s ideal for a variety of sleeping positions. I tested this mattress to see how well it performed over 30 nights and reveal my thoughts in my full-length Puffy Mattress review below.
The Puffy Cloud Mattress is a memory foam mattress that’s designed to provide responsive support, with cooling layers built in to lower the risk of overheating while you sleep. This mattress comes in the standard Puffy Cloud and Puffy Lux hybrid versions. I tested the Puffy Cloud for features like overall support, edge support, motion transfer and cooling capabilities. Overall, the mattress performed well, but there are some elements to keep in mind before investing in this for your home.
Our score: 8/10 | Type: Memory foam | Puffy’s firmness rating: 6 or 7 out of 10 | Trial period: 101 nights | Warranty: Lifetime | Height: 10 inches

Puffy Cloud Mattress: Construction, Firmness And Feel
Plush Without Sacrificing Support
The Puffy Cloud is a memory foam mattress that combines cushy layers of comfort foam, support foam and special covers on each side of the mattress:
- Cover: With cooling yarns woven right in, the cover is cool to the touch and has a fun cloud design all over.
- Top layer: The climate fiber layer features felted fiber for cushioning and enhanced air circulation.
- Comfort layer: Made with the brand’s Cooling Cloud Foam, this layer features 2 inches of gel-infused memory foam to cushion joints and disperse heat.
- Transition layer: Two inches of pressure-relieving foam enhances spinal alignment.
- Support layer: Made with 6 inches of high-density support foam, this layer enhances motion isolation and provides stability.
- Base cover: The mattress features a specialized base grip cover to help keep the sleep surface from sliding around.
The Puffy Cloud is designed to be a medium-firm mattress, but the overall feel is on the softer end of medium-firm. I think this mattress offers a medium to medium-soft feel with its combined 4 inches of Cooling Cloud Foam and Cloud Comfort Pressure Relief Foam layers, which create a lot of give up top. Sleepers don’t sink deep into the mattress, but there is definitely a cradling feel. While Puffy says this mattress is a good fit for all sleep positions, I would rate it best for side, combination and back sleepers due to its softness.
Puffy Cloud Mattress Features
An Excellent Balance Of Give And Stability
There’s a lot to praise about the Puffy Cloud, but the first thing I noticed was how plush it felt. The phrase “sleeping on a cloud” gets thrown around a lot in the mattress world, but this is the closest I’ve felt to that experience after years of testing a range of mattresses.
But while some plush mattresses can make you feel stuck, the Puffy Cloud doesn’t. This mattress still offers plenty of support, balancing the tough task of creating a soft feel without making it hard to roll over in bed.
The Puffy Cloud also does a great job at reducing motion transfer—a superb quality for couples. It even has a specialized bottom cover for enhanced grip to keep the mattress from sliding around. (Just keep in mind that means it can be harder to adjust the mattress on the frame than some other options.)
Pressure Relief
The Puffy Cloud uses several layers of memory foam to help cradle your joints and muscles as you sleep. As a side sleeper, I found that my shoulders, hips and knees felt supported and cushioned by the mattress without feeling like I was sinking in. While some mattresses have targeted support across different areas of the mattress, the Puffy Cloud doesn’t. However, I didn’t notice a difference in how it felt—or how I felt in the morning.
Cooling
Memory foam mattresses tend to sleep hot, which is why companies often add in a cooling cover to help balance things out. While the Puffy Cloud has a cooling cover that literally feels cool to the touch, it also has elements built in to its layers, like heat-resistant fibers and aerated foam that’s designed to shuttle away heat, lowering the odds you’ll overheat at night. I tend to pile on blankets when I go to bed, only to toss them off in the night when I get hot, but I kept them on with the Puffy Cloud and didn’t feel like I was overheating.
Motion Transfer
Because the Puffy Cloud is an all-foam mattress, it’s not shocking that it does a good job at motion isolation. My husband usually gets into bed after me, and he never woke me up while we slept on this mattress. I tend to get up in the night to use the bathroom and didn’t disturb him in the process. I also wasn’t able to move him around or bounce him off when I jumped on my side of the bed. My 7-year-old appreciated that the mattress felt bouncy enough for him to do a flip on it, but he was also able to pull it off without disturbing his little sisters on the other side of the bed.
Support
The Puffy Cloud provides ample back support. I’ve struggled with back pain in the past, and I had no issues with aches and pains after sleeping on the Cloud. But while the mattress feels supportive overall, its edge support leaves something to be desired. I have four young kids who often crowd into my bed, pushing me to the edge. I rolled right off the first time I tried to scoot outward. If you’re a solo sleeper or even sleep with a partner on a king-sized bed, this may not be an issue for you. But it’s nearly impossible to tie your shoes on the edge of the bed—I tried and failed.
The Cloud’s weight capacity is 350 pounds on each side for the queen, king and California king sizes. If you’re looking for a more supportive mattress, the brand’s Puffy Lux—which is considered an upgraded version of the Cloud—is a hybrid mattress.
Ease Of Movement
The Puffy Cloud delivers a responsive feel when you lie down on it. It feels like you’re supported, but not sinking in. That made it easy for me to roll from side to side and to get out of bed with ease. My husband, who is heavier than I am, said he felt like he sank in a little more than me, but he also had no issues moving around.
About The Company
Puffy has been in operation since 2016 and has created a reputation for delivering softer mattresses that still provide ample support. The company offers four different conventional mattresses to suit a range of sleep styles. Puffy also sells smart beds, bed frames and bedding in neutral colors. You can even pick up a rug on the website.
Shipping And Delivery
The Puffy Cloud is shipped free within one to two days of your order. While it arrived compact, as all beds in a box do, the box was heavy, and I needed help getting it up the stairs to my bedroom. However, once it was placed on my frame, I had no problem unwrapping it and letting it expand.
Trial Period And Returns
Puffy offers a 101-night sleep trial. That’s fairly middle of the road compared to other mattress companies. If you decide the mattress isn’t for you, Puffy schedules a free return and gives you a full refund. The company then sends the mattress to a charity, which you can choose.
Warranty
The Puffy Cloud has a lifetime warranty. That ensures that your mattress is free from defects in materials and workmanship for as long as you own it, according to the company. Keep in mind that your mattress must be used on an “appropriately sized and suitable bed frame or floor,” which is fairly standard. The warranty is also voided if your mattress has been “abused, burned, misused, or damaged by improper use,” per the website.
Other Company Highlights
All of Puffy’s mattresses are designed, manufactured, assembled and sewn in the U.S. The company offers live chat, if you need it. Another perk: Each Puffy mattress comes with two complimentary pillows, a mattress protector and a set of sheets.
Other Mattresses From Puffy
Puffy has four conventional mattresses to choose from. Keep these in mind, too:

This is considered a tier above the Puffy Cloud and boasts a more premium design and look. It’s a hybrid mattress with eight layers. Puffy ranks this medium-plush, meaning a 5 or 6 out of 10.
The Puffy Royal is a hybrid stacked with 10 layers that has an ultra-plush feel perfect for side sleepers and those under 150 pounds (i.e., a 4 or 5 out of 10).
Final Thoughts
The Puffy Cloud is a great option for side, back and combination sleepers thanks to its plush feel and medium firmness. While the brand says this is also a good option for stomach sleepers, this mattress is likely too soft for that sleep style. The Puffy Cloud is an overall great choice with an impressively comfortable feel, but the edge support is clearly lacking. If edge support is important to you, consider upgrading to the brand’s Lux, Royal or Monarch mattresses.
How I Tested The Puffy Cloud Mattress
To test the Puffy Cloud Mattress, I slept on this mattress for 30 nights. I also put the mattress through a slew of tests, including lifting it, jumping on it, sitting and lying on the edge, and trying to move my husband by jumping and rolling on the mattress.
I’m a lightweight sleeper (under 130 pounds), and my husband is an average-sized sleeper (between 130 and 250 pounds). I’m a side sleeper, and he’s a combination and back sleeper. In addition to my input, I got his feedback on how he felt about the mattress. Overall, he found the Puffy Cloud to be comfortable but, like me, he also was frustrated with the lack of edge support.
My Expertise
I’ve been a health and commerce writer for over a decade and have tested a range of mattresses, including the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt Mattress, Nolah Original 10 and several of the best mattresses for kids. I’ve written a slew of mattress and sleep stories for Forbes Vetted, including the best mattresses for snoring, best floor mattresses and best mattresses for guest rooms.
