Pep Guardiola makes huge Man City exit decision

Pep Guardiola is expected to step down as Manchester City manager when his current contract expires next summer, a report has claimed.

City have won it all under Guardiola, with the Spanish manager leading his squad to 17 trophies, including six league titles, two FA Cups and a Champions League. He surpasses all previous City bosses in terms of honours and has enjoyed eight fruitful years at the Etihad.

But the 2024/25 campaign may be his last in charge of the Cityzens, with Guardiola’s contract set to expire next summer.

After winning a fourth consecutive Premier League title, Guardiola confessed he is approaching the end of his time with City and admitted he will hold talks with the club next season ahead of the expiry of his contract in 2025.

The Daily Mail state that those at the club believe the Spanish boss will not wish to extend his reign and are instead expecting him to walk away from his post.

The report also reveals that City will begin ‘succession planning’ to prepare for a life away from Guardiola and Girona’s Michel may be a potential suitor after an impressive run in La Liga.

The news of the former Barcelona manager’s future came just one day after City’s 2-1 FA Cup final loss at the hands of rivals Manchester United. Despite a poor campaign in the Premier League, Erik ten Hag’s side were able to stop City from winning a domestic double, just one week after they lifted the league trophy.

Guardiola has confirmed that he will be on the touchline for City in the upcoming campaign, but his future beyond that remains unknown.
