Barcelona seemed to be heading into a prosperous new era with Xavi at the helm, but the relinquishing of their La Liga crown has left the Spaniard with an uncertain future.
The manager’s U-turn after deciding to step down at the end of the season means he’s expected to be in charge for the start of pre-season this summer, but there are no guarantees in Catalonia.
Xavi’s future is seeped in doubt, although there’s little room for speculation regarding Barca’s pre-season plans.
Here’s what the club has booked in for the 2024 summer.
Barcelona have a blockbuster summer ahead of them as they participate in the Soccer Champions Tour 2024 in the United States.
The club jetted across the Atlantic last summer and will do so again as part of their preparations for the 2024/25 season.
On this occasion, Barca are slated to play just three games in the States, with one of those arriving against Clasico rivals Real Madrid in New York. MetLife Stadium, host of the 2026 World Cup final, will stage the pre-season Clasico which Xavi’s side won 3-0 last summer – that was not a sign of things to come.
On either side of the Clasico on 3 August, Barca take on perennial Premier League victors Manchester City in Orlando before battling Milan in Baltimore.
The club will then return to Catalonia ahead of the start of the domestic campaign. In August, Barca will host the Joan Gamper Trophy, although their opponent has not yet been confirmed. They’ve faced the likes of Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur in recent years and some have speculated Werder Bremen could receive the invitation this summer.
