St Louis CITY have loaned midfielder Miguel Perez to United Soccer League outfit Birmingham Legion through the 2024 season.
Perez, who’s a homegrown defensive midfielder, suited up for St Louis 18 times across all competitions in their first-ever season as a club, bagging two goals in the process. The 18-year-old also managed 13 appearances for St Louis’ MLS Next Pro side, St Louis CITY 2.
“Miguel showed immense progression in his first professional season and we want to see him gain more minutes in a competitive league like USL for his growth. Miggy continues to be one of our local success stories after scouting him at a camp in Booneville, bringing him into our academy and earning a spot on the first team,” St Louis sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said in a release.
“Our fans have enjoyed watching him grow and develop his skills and as a club, we want to ensure he has every opportunity to continue his journey by getting more playing time. We wish him all the best in Birmingham and can’t wait to see how he progresses throughout the year.”
The Western Conference side have high hopes for Perez, as he’s still contracted to the club through the 2025 MLS season. The St Louis, Missouri native joins a Birmingham side that has qualified for the postseason in the last two years of USL play, finishing in seventh place in the Eastern Conference last term before crashing out in the playoff quarterfinals to Charleston Battery.
Perez could get his first taste of action with his new club on January 27 when Birmingham take on MLS outfit Atlanta United in a pre-season friendly at Protective Stadium.
St Louis will embark on their second MLS season on February 24 at home against Real Salt Lake. Bradley Carnell’s squad are also competing in this year’s Concacaf Champions Cup for the first time ever, as they take on fellow MLS opposition Houston Dynamo in the first leg of the knockout stage on February 20 at CITYPARK.
