The NMPA has announced the top Gold & Platinum songwriters for Q3 2023, including the top artist-songwriter, Tyler, The Creator, and top non-performing songwriter, Jon Brion.

The National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) Gold & Platinum Program has announced the top songwriters for the third quarter of the year, including the top artist-songwriter and top non-performing songwriter for the period.

Tyler, The Creator was the top artist-songwriter overall, with 17 certifications; in July, August, and September, 1,793 Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum certifications were awarded. His certifications included the 5X Platinum “EARFQUAKE,” the 4X Platinum “See You Again,” and the Double Platinum “NEW MAGIC WAND.” Sony Music Publishing distributes his work.

The top non-performing songwriter was Jon Brion, with nine certifications for songs that include the Platinum-certified “Small Worlds,” “Ladders,” “Hurt Feelings,” and “Come Back to Earth,” all recorded by Mac Miller. Brion is published by Kobalt.

“Hip-hop dominated Q3 with huge showings by Tyler, The Creator and Jon Brion,” says NMPA President & CEO David Israelite. “Tyler had an astounding number of songs certified — a testament to his innovative style. We are pleased to see Jon recognized for his prolific work with Mac Miller, whose honors will undoubtedly continue even in his tragic absence. Jon’s songwriting achievements show how his work continues to resonate. Congratulations to these incredible creators.”

This month saw Tyler, The Creator launch 12 holiday pop-up shops for his fashion brand, Golf Wang, alongside their permanent locations in New York City, Los Angeles, and London. The temporary locations opened on December 2 in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

The US locations include Austin, Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, and Washington, DC. International stores popped up in Amsterdam, Berlin, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Melbourne, and London. A Seoul location will be announced at a later date.

The stores carry portions of the FW23 collection, which includes apparel and accessories and a graffiti airbrushed art piece featured on t-shirts, fleece pullovers, jackets, and accessories. The pop-up stores also carry pieces from the brand’s Essentials Collection, and vinyl editions of Tyler’s music catalog.
