The End Of ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Is Here, All 2.0 Updates, DLC On Ultimate Edition Disc

Cyberpunk 2077

CDPR

CDPR said they were moving on from best ongoing game nominee Cyberpunk 2077 after the release of Phantom Liberty, and if there was a moment that serves as a hard endpoint for the game, it’s probably this one.

CDPR has announced Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate addition for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. That includes the game and all its 2.0 updates, changes and additions, and those even before that, which will all be right on the disc rather than downloaded updates, indicating, as CDPR has previously said, that no further major updates are coming.

One weird thing is that the Phantom Liberty DLC is included on the Xbox disc, but not the PS5 disc, which would have to be downloaded via a normal game code. This apparently is because of some specific way PlayStation handles DLC, and not some purposeful decision by CDPR to make the PS5 disc worse.

So, should you get it? I mean come on, who are you asking here? I’m the guy who just gave Cyberpunk 2077 his 2023 Game of the Year award, saying that it qualifies because of how dramatically the 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty transformed it. It’s one of my favorite games ever made, certainly my favorite single player RPG, and the drama of the disappointment of its launch are a distant memory now, as top to bottom, it’s incredible. No, I won’t forget what CDPR, especially its bosses, tried to pull at launch, but taking the game on its own, the version you will get on a disc like this, and yes, I absolutely stand by it being my personal GOTY and one of my favorites ever.

Ultimate Edition

CDPR

As for what’s next, the disc being the “end” of the game means we now await news about Cyberpunk 2077 2, or Cyberpunk 2078 or whatever you want to call it. The game ended up selling extremely well overall, and a sequel has already been greenlit. CDPR is now mainly working on a new Witcher game, but their goal has been to developer multiple big series at the same time rather than needing to just focus on one or the other. So hopefully that means development on the sequel will start in a little while here rather than like, four years from now when The Witcher 4 is out.

The Ultimate Edition arrives on December 5, which is obviously meant to be a holiday purchase you can put actual wrapping paper on rather than just gifting it to someone on Steam. A great present for little Johnny or Jane, grandparents! If Johnny or Jane is 17 of course!!

But yeah, a fitting end for a stellar game, an all-timer. Don’t believe me? Play it for yourself.
