PSG vs Strasbourg

Paris Saint-Germain play host to Strasbourg in Ligue 1 this Saturday in the knowledge that a victory can send them to the top of the table by the end of the weekend if results go their way.

PSG are currently two points off Monaco in first and a point off Nice in second after a difficult start to the campaign. Luis Enrique’s team have won just half of their eight games in Ligue 1 to date and are looking for a second successive domestic victory when they take on Strasbourg.

A chastening 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United in the Champions League was followed by a 3-1 win over Rennes before the international break, two results which summed up PSG’s inconsistency.

A home clash with 11th-placed Strasbourg should be a routine win for the champions, but draws with Lorient, Toulouse and Clermont Foot have shown that PSG can’t afford even a sniff of complacency at the Parc des Princes this weekend.

Luis Enrique will be without four members of his squad for the visit of Strasbourg after Achraf Hakimi, Randal Kolo Muani, Layvin Kurzawa and Ousmane Dembele were handed one-game suspensions following their role in offensive homophobic chanting directed at Marseille fans after PSG‘s 4-0 win back in late September.

Enrique’s list of absentees also include the injured Nuno Mendes and Marco Asensio. The former has missed the entirety of PSG’s season so far and remains out for several months, while the latter has been sidelined for the last six games with a leg injury.

Presnel Kimpembe remains out after undergoing surgery back in February 2023.

PSG predicted lineup vs Strasbourg (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Mukiele, Marquinhos, Skriniar, Hernandez; Zaire-Emery, Ugarte, Vitinha; Barcola, Ramos, Mbappe.

Patrick Vieira has a fairly clean bill of health heading to the French capital this Saturday, with only some players unavailable to the former Crystal Palace boss.

One of those is forward Emmanuel Emegha, who has been injured since a clash with Lens last month. The Dutchman is joined in the treatment room by defender Karol Fila who has torn his cruciate ligament and is yet to feature for Strasbourg this season.

Strasbourg v predicted lineup vs PSG (4-3-3): Sels; Guilbert, Nyamsi, Perrin, Delaine; Senaya, Doukoure, Mwanga; Angelo Gabriel, Mothiba, Gameiro.

The French champions should have no problems welcoming Strasbourg to the Parc des Princes on Saturday, but PSG have struggled for consistency under Enrique this campaign, meaning an upset could be on the cards.

Enrique will be hoping that PSG’s suspended absentees won’t impact his side’s chances of taking all three points, with more than enough quality in the rest of the squad to pick up the slack. Regardless of their patchy form, it should prove a straightforward afternoon for the 11-time Ligue 1 winners.

Prediction: PSG 2-0 Strasbourg
