Biden wants UAW, automakers to work around-the-clock to avert strike

The UAW has begun a targeted strike at three assembly plants — one each at Ford, GM and Stellantis — as talks over a new contract stalled at the deadline.
The union seeks a self-described “audacious and ambitious” list of demands that include a 46 percent raise, a return to traditional pensions and a 32-hour work week. Late offers and counteroffers failed to produce a deal.
