The health ministers of 16 countries, including Latvian Health Minister Līga MenĆgelsone, have joined Ukraine’s statement on international medical partnership. The announcement was made in Ukraine this week as part of the First Ladies Summit. L. Menľelsone participated in the event remotely.
As part of the partnership, hospitals from different parts of Ukraine will cooperate with leading clinics of other countries to adopt good practices and share their professional experience. The Minister of Health of Ukraine admitted that no medical system alone can cope with the daily challenges of a full-scale war, and the only thing that makes it possible is reliable support.
“Our joint statement covers four main issues. The first is mental health. The second is the international medical partnership. The third is the development of human resources in the health care system. And the fourth issue is the mental health of the health care workers themselves,” said Ukrainian Health Minister Viktor Liashko.
Latvia welcomes the initiative of Ukraine and its medical institutions to establish a partnership in medicine. L. MenĐelsone expressed her support for this initiative, “because human resources in medicine, capacity, professionalism and commitment are the cornerstone of any health system”. From Latvia, the National Rehabilitation Center “Vaivari” will be involved in the project, which will cooperate with the Ivanofrankivsk Regional Clinical Hospital, and the Children’s Clinical University Hospital, which will cooperate with the Odesa Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital.
Other countries can also join the initiative, already this week it was signed by the health ministers of 16 countries, including Estonia and Lithuania.
