Talented Manchester United youngster Alvaro Fernandez has joined Granada on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season.
The 20-year-old has been on the books at Man Utd since 2020, when he signed a four-year deal at the club after leaving La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Fernandez was heavily involved in Man Utd’s pre-season games ahead of the current campaign, but is yet to make a single competitive senior appearance for the club having spent last season out on loan at Preston North End – where he played 39 games in the Championship.
With senior football not forthcoming at the Red Devils, the left-back has now been sent out on loan to La Liga outfit Granada to get some much needed minutes under his belt.
A statement from Man Utd regarding the loan move reads: “Manchester United left-back Alvaro Fernandez has completed a season-long loan move to La Liga side Granada CF.
“Fernandez’s season-long move to Granada is an opportunity for the Spaniard to gain further experience in senior football and continue to develop both on and off the pitch.
“Good luck, Alvaro. We will be monitoring your progress closely.”
The move comes a few hours after Man Utd confirmed the loan signing of fellow Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon.
Reguilon has joined on a season-long loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur, providing some much needed senior cover while Luke Shaw remains sidelined with a serious injury.
