Destiny 2 launched with some strong new Strand aspects this season. Titans are a sword-slinging gate-crasher with their new banner mod. Hunters have strand razor orbs spinning around the map. But Warlocks? Warlocks flew too close to the sun.
Warlocks got the “Weavewalker” aspect, which heavily increases damage reduction, but you cannot fire while the in the mode, only float around and generate Threadlings as you do so. A fun little survivability thing in PvE but in PvP? Oh lord.
First, there was the “normal” problem with it, that the damage reduction is just insane. You could tank a Honed Edge Izanagi headshot while Weavewalking, full raid boss mode. Then there was the fact that while Weavewalking you could still grab the Rift orb and run while being unable to be killed. This got Rift disabled from competitive play.
However, finally, Weavewalker went too far during Trials weekend when players figured out that even though you couldn’t shoot, you could use an exploit that allowed you to use the glaive’s melee ability to instantly pop out of Weavewalk, allowing you to run around being an annoying stabby ghost. As such, Weavewalker has now been disabled in all modes across the game with no timetable for a return:
There are reportedly other weird interactions with Weavewalk as well. Something about an attached arc buddy. Something with Anarchy and heavy ammo. So even if they are fixing the glaive issue, it’s possible there are still other problems to fix before it can come back, lest it return and there’s some other new thing that causes everyone to run it because of some goofy ability. I’m not quite sure how you “fix” something like being able to have an arc buddy while in the mode, but we’ll see.
As for me, I am waiting until loadouts get fixed before I play around with any of the new Strand aspects. The most impressive, non-exploit-driven one seems to be the Titan banner one with some truly wild sword builds after more sword buffs as well entering the game this season. That’s the one I want to try the most, and loadouts should be fixed in part some time next week. Yes, I’m just lazy.
Weavewalker seems like it may be gone a while. Maybe they can fix the glaive thing quick, but something tells me putting an “armor lock” type ability in the game like this is about to cause a whole lot more issues, if this many strategies have been discovered just a few days after season launch.
