The most ambitious drone show in the Baltics was held

Ringing in Riga’s 822nd birthday, on the evening of August 18, despite the storm and rain, residents of Riga and guests of the city gathered for the ringing event of Riga’s birthday celebration in Lucavsala, where they could watch the largest drone show in the Baltics and enjoy a concert program of popular musicians in the night sky of Riga.

“In celebration of Riga’s birthday, an ambitious drone show was held. We are satisfied with the work done. In our opinion, a historic day for Riga. Many thanks to our partners – the companies “Ligth a Sky” and “SPH Engineering”, the developer of the drone show, head of Basemotion Armands Blumbergs expresses his satisfaction and thanks Riga for the given opportunity.

Despite the unfavorable and changing weather conditions, in a Force Majeure situation, the drone show was realized successfully. More than 3,000 spectators attended the event in Lucavsala. The show could also be watched from both banks of the Daugava and on the Riga Facebook account live.

With the help of 500 drones, a 10-minute audiovisual performance told the story of Riga from the past to the present, emphasizing its continuous development. Riga is a city that is open and full of future possibilities, and it is in the hands of every resident of Riga to discover and create them. The key is all of us. The accompanying story of the show was created as a conversation, also involving artificial intelligence as an integral part of technological development.

On the other hand, visitors to the Lucavsala festival stage and the audience of the live broadcast of the festival were delighted by the groups “Dziļi violets”, “Pirmais kurss” and the duet “Bujāns”. In between, the event manager Artūrs Mednis entertained the visitors and DJ Magnus Eriņš played.

The drone show was created by the globally well-known Latvian company Basemotion, which has designed and programmed drone shows for such brands and events as Super Bowl, Grammy Awards, Pepsi, Avatar, Boeing, Porsche ”, F1 and many others.

The drone show on Riga’s birthday was implemented in cooperation with the drone company “Light A Sky” (Lithuania), SPH Engineering (Latvia), as well as several cooperation partners from other European countries, taking into account the scope of this drone show. With an event of this magnitude, Riga marks Latvia as a fast-growing modern technology development center.

The recording of the event and the retrospective video of the drone show will also be available on Riga’s social networks and YouTube account in the near future.
