After building solid foundations during his first year in the job, Erik ten Hag will be hoping to oversee another leap from his Manchester United side in 2023/24.
It hasn’t been a plain-sailing summer transfer window for the Red Devils thus far, but the club have brought in players that will undoubtedly improve Ten Hag’s starting XI and help United bridge the gap between themselves and their supreme Manchester rivals.
However, in order to mount the title challenge Ten Hag craves, a quick start to the season is paramount.
This is what United’s schedule looks like after edging past Wolves on Monday night.
A tough test awaits United next weekend as they face a rejuvenated Spurs side buoyed by the arrival of Ange Postecoglou.
The exit of Harry Kane renders the Lilywhites a less potent force in the final third, but United will have a fight on their hands if they’re to control Saturday’s contest on Ange’s home debut.
Erik ten Hag is yet to taste defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, although he has appeared in the away dugout just twice. Christian Eriksen will also be back in N17.

United’s soft home schedule to begin the new season continues against Nottingham Forest.
After taking on a Wolves side many have tipped for the drop, United’s second home game arrives against the worst travelling side in the division last season. However, there were some positive signs in Forest’s 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on the opening weekend.
Ten Hag thoroughly enjoyed his duels with Forest during his debut campaign. United won all four encounters by a combined score-line of 10-0.
26/08/23 – Man Utd vs Nottingham Forest (15:00)
While United should begin the season with two wins from two at home, they’ve got two tough early tests on the road.
The Red Devils are back in north London to start September as they face an Arsenal side seemingly ready to usurp Manchester City at the Premier League summit. These two played out a pair of cracking contests last season, and similar fireworks should be expected in this early season matchup.

A last-gasp Alexis Mac Allister penalty meant Brighton completed the rarest of doubles over United last season after they beat Ten Hag’s side at Old Trafford on the Dutchman’s Premier League bow.
The Seagulls have gone from strength to strength since Graham Potter oversaw their opening weekend win in Manchester last season.
Now led by Roberto De Zerbi, Brighton look set to upset the aristocracy once again this season. Their campaign started with a thumping 4-1 win over Premier League debutants Luton.

The Ten Hag revolution started with a return to the Champions League in year one, although United’s absence from UEFA’s premier club competition was only brief.
The Red Devils have struggled to contend in their recent Champions League appearances and have progressed into the quarter-finals of the competition just twice since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
Ten Hag will be hoping to oversee a prosperous European campaign in 2023/24, with United’s first group stage game taking place on either 19 or 20 September. Their opponents will be revealed after the draw on 31 August.

This will be one of the fixtures Vincent Kompany bookmarked heading into the new season. Manchester United at Turf Moor: it’s a big one for the former Manchester City skipper.
Kompany won just ten of his 24 meetings with United as a player, losing 11, and this will be the first time facing up against the Red Devils as a manager.
While his Burnley side were comfortably beaten by City on opening night, the Clarets offered glimpses of the trouble they’ll give top teams this season.
