Robert Sanchez hails influence of Mauricio Pochettino following Chelsea move

New Chelsea signing Robert Sanchez believes the club are in a prime position to succeed with Mauricio Pochettino as head coach.

Sanchez completed his move from Brighton & Hove Albion to the Blues on Saturday, penning a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Spain international left the Seagulls after falling behind Jason Steele and summer signing Bart Verbruggen in the pecking order, upping sticks and moving to Chelsea to provide competition to international teammate Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Chelsea are expected to go through another season of transition having moved onto a third senior head coach in 12 months, with Pochettino brought in as a permanent replacement for Graham Potter.

Speaking to club channels, Sanchez gave his initial assessment on joining Chelsea.

“I started really my career here in England. Brighton has given and provided me everything I needed as a goalkeeper inside and outside the pitch to get the maximum potential out of me which I’m really happy I have done and thankful. Obviously now it is another bigger challenge and I’m ready for it,” Sanchez said.

“Choosing Chelsea was the best choice that I could have picked because of the opportunities that they have presented in front of me is amazing to develop more as a goalkeeper, learning and to compete for the spot and show everybody how good I can be.”

When asked how he feels about the chance to link up with Pochettino, Sanchez replied: “Really excited. Amazing opportunity to work with a coach of that level. Obviously I have watched him at his past clubs, what he has done and I think what he brings to the club, the family [feel] around the players is really good and his play style is something that I suit really well. I am going to contribute good to win trophies to the club with him.”
