Move aimed at further integrate of Ford’s China operations and sparking wider availability of the electric crossover.

Ford Motor Co. has put Changan Ford, its passenger-vehicle joint venture with Changan Automobile Co., in charge of Mustang Mach-E sales and marketing to further integrate its China operations and spark wider availability of the electric crossover.

The move took effect on August 1, Changan Ford said this week.

Changan Ford builds and markets gasoline-powered vehicles for the Ford and Lincoln brands.

While produced at Changan Ford, the Mustang Mach-E was previously sold only through directly controlled stores by a company Ford incorporated in the east China city of Nanjing in 2020.

With the change, nearly 300 of its franchised dealerships are now authorized to distribute the Mustang Mach-E, tripling the number of stores selling the electric crossover, Changan Ford said.

Ford launched customer deliveries of the Mustang Mach-E in China in December 2021 but sales of the vehicle remain limited.

Only 77 Mustang Mach-Es were sold in China in June, with year-to-date volume slipping 85 percent to 268, according to the China Passenger Car Association.
