The Fix the Tix Coalition is joined by NITO and NIVA in applauding the fast-moving ‘TICKET Act’ as a step in the right direction for comprehensive ticketing reform.

The Fix the Tix Coalition, campaigning for new regulation of the ticketing market in the United States, has released a statement applauding the Senate Commerce Committee’s efforts on the fast-moving Transparency in Charges for Key Events Ticketing (TICKET) Act, which the Committee passed last week.

The Coalition is joined in applauding the TICKET Act and its efforts to overhaul the live event ticketing market by the National Independent Talent Organization (NITO) and the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA). Together, these organizations urge that the TICKET Act be a first step in a more comprehensive live event ticketing reform.

“The Fix the Tix Coalition applauds Chair Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Ranking Member Ted Cruz (R-TX) for making ticketing issues a part of the Senate Commerce Committee’s agenda,” the Coalition’s statement begins. “We especially appreciate Chair Cantwell’s commitment to working with us to end the practice of speculative tickets. The Committee’s substitute amendment of the TICKET Act passed out of Committee advances all-in pricing, one tenet of the 10-point Fix the Tix plan for comprehensive ticketing reform.

“As the Senate Commerce Committee takes this first step toward comprehensive ticketing reform with the TICKET Act, the Fix the Tix Coalition looks forward to working with Senators Klobuchar, Cornyn, Blackburn, Lujan, and the Senate Commerce Committee on a broad array of critical reforms in the Fix the Tix plan that must be enacted by Congress to protect consumers from predatory ticketing practices. These measures include a total ban on speculative tickets, which are fake tickets, and extensive efforts to prevent price gouging of consumers on the secondary ticketing market.

“The Fix the Tix Coalition urges swift action by the Senate Commerce Committee on forthcoming comprehensive ticketing legislation that empowers local economic development, restores integrity to the ticketing marketplace, and safeguards consumers, artists, and venues.”

“NITO (the National Independent Talent Organization) joins our partners in Fix the Tix and NIVA in support of the Transparency in Charges for the Key Events Ticketing (TICKET) Act as a positive step towards addressing some of the major inequities in concert ticketing,” says Frank Riley of High Road Touring and President of NITO. “To truly fix ticketing, we need to end speculative tickets, which are fake tickets, outright and provide consumers with a full itemization of all ticket fees.”
