The best goals of MLS matchday 22

Major League Soccer Matchday 22 contained several golazos to add to the already impressive highlight reel for 2023.

Players shined in both conferences, with Thiago Almada and Matias Pellegrini scoring show-stopping goals in the East while Emanuel Reynoso and Sam Junqua put on a show in the wild West. There is no stopping these players.

With that being said, here are the best goals from the weekend…

5. Sam Junqua (vs. LAFC)

No Jesus Ferreira, no problem for FC Dallas.

It was evident that Sam Junqua was going to have a crack at goal by the way he way he dribbled with intent around the LAFC defense.

What a time to score your first goal of the season against the defending MLS Cup champs to secure the victory for your side.

4. Emanuel Reynoso (vs. Portland Timbers)

Emanuel Reynoso scoring an Olimpico on the stroke of halftime, you couln’t script it any better.

Since returning from suspension, Reynoso has lifted the spirits around Minnesota United, scoring three goals in four appearances. The Loons now sit in 11th in the West, just one point from a playoff spot with 24 points.

3. Juan ‘Cucho’ Hernandez (vs. New York Red Bulls)

— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) July 2, 2023

There’s simply just no stopping this bit of skill from Cucho Hernandez. The cheeky back-heel goal helped the Crew earn their 10th win of the season.

The Crew continue their climb up the Eastern Confernce and don’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon with the likes of Hernandez, Lucas Zelarayan, and Christian Ramirez in top form.

With 34 points from 20 games played, just how high can this Columbus team continue to climb?

2. Thiago Almada (vs. Philadelphia Union)

— Atlanta United FC (@ATLUTD) July 2, 2023

Let’s face it, we all thought Thiago Almada was going to put this in the back of the net from the free-kick. And, he did, just not in the way we were expecting.

Atlanta’s MVP candidate stole the show against Philadelphia with this volleyed strike that brings his goal tally in 2023 to eight.

Just how much longer will Almada be an Atlanta United player as the transfer window is set to open up?

1. Matias Pellegrini (vs. Montreal)

— New York City Football Club (@NYCFC) July 2, 2023

Matias Pellegrini had just what the doctor ordered for NYCFC with this outrageous bicycle kick, which could very well contend for goal of the season.

What makes this goal even sweeter is that it snapped an 11 game winless streak for the Blues. What a way to seal a victory, Matias.
