Olivia Rodrigo announces her new 2023 album, GUTS, the follow-up to her 2021 debut album, Sour. The album releases on September 8, while its first single, “vampire,” releases on June 30.
Grammy winner Olivia Rodrigo has announced her sophomore album, Guts, out September 8 via Geffen Records, the follow-up to her wildly successful 2021 debut, Sour. The new album’s first single, “vampire,” is out this Friday, June 30, and is available now to pre-save.
“My sophomore album GUTS comes out September 8,” says Rodrigo on her Instagram. “I am so proud of this record, and I can’t wait to share it with you all! You can pre-save it now!”
Rodrigo announced “vampire” earlier this month, which she wrote (along with most of the new album) with Daniel Nigro, her collaborator on Sour. The track will be her first solo single since her debut album. CD and 7″ single versions of the song will include a demo version as a B-side track.
“For me, this album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life,” said Rodrigo. “I feel like I grew ten years between the ages of 18 and 20 — it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that’s all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully, the album reflects that.”
Rodrigo won the 2022 Grammy Awards for Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance, after which she spent the year touring and speaking out to her audiences about abortion rights following the Supreme Court overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Amid her many shows and appearances throughout the year, Olivia Rodrigo performed “Deja Vu” and “Uptown Girl” with Billy Joel, sang “Torn” with Natalie Imbruglia, inducted Alanis Morissette into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and sang “You’re So Vain” for Carly Simon’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.
