LATVIA, RIGA —
Director of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (IKSD) of the Riga City Council, Māris Krastiņš, has made a decision and agreed with the municipality on the termination of employment from February 28 of this year. It is planned to appoint Ivars Balamovski, head of the Education Department of RD IKSD, as the acting director of IKSD.
Riga Municipality will announce an open competition for the vacancy of the director of the IKSSD.
“I would like to say a big thank you to the management team and colleagues of the department, as well as the heads of educational institutions for the work done together with the aim of providing quality education, creative cultural process and intense sports life. In less than three years, despite the strain caused by the pandemic and the subsequent Russian invasion of Ukraine, the foundations have been laid for reviewing systemic processes and making data-based decisions. A huge thank you to everyone also for the fact that in record time and under difficult conditions, we ensured the introduction of changes in the catering service, as well as successfully established the Northern Riga Cultural Association,” says Māris Krastiņš.
M. Krastiņš headed the department from June 1, 2020.
