Volkswagen-backed Gotion to build EV battery with European partner

Gotion High-Tech, a Chinese electric vehicle battery maker largely owned by Volkswagen, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Slovakian battery startup InoBat, as part of the company’s move to up its overseas production capacity to 100 gigawatt-hours (GWh) worth of batteries a year by 2025. The two companies will explore opportunities to co-establish a battery cell factory with an annual capacity of 40 GWh, as well as the potential to make energy storage batteries together at InoBat’s existing facility in Slovakia, according to a Tuesday statement.
