Taking care of the environment, the multi-service company “Tele2” will reduce the size of the plastic packaging of “Tele2” SIM cards, which will allow to reduce the amount of plastic used by almost 40%. The new SIM card plastic frame is made of recyclable plastic. Last year, Tele2 issued more than 150,000 new SIM cards to postpaid customers, placed in a plastic frame the size of a business card, which will be half the size in the future.
“Tele2” already halved the plastic frame of “Zelta Zivtiņa” brand SIM cards last year, and the new “Tele2” SIM card packaging will be gradually introduced to the market in the first half of this year.
“Our company’s sustainability efforts go hand in hand with the company’s core business, because only through this we are able to make a contribution to both the company and society at the same time. Therefore, this year we will not only reduce the amount of plastic we use for our SIM card frames, but we will also no longer offer smart device accessories in plastic packaging in our shopping centers. From now on, we will buy and sell accessories in environmentally friendly packaging,” says Valdis Vancovičs, Chairman of the Board of Tele2.
“Tele2” is the first mobile communications operator in the Baltics and Northern Europe, which received approval from the “Science Based Target Initiative” (SBTi) organization for scientifically based actions to achieve the goal of zero emissions (Net-Zero Standard) in 2035. “Tele2” purchases electricity produced in Latvia from 100% renewable energy resources.
