BTS’ Suga’s “Haegeum” has found its way into Call of Duty: Warzone’s new season trailer, giving the South Korean Hajin Conflict update a K-pop angle.

BTS continues to reign supreme, and the latest tie-up involves Suga’s alter ego, Agust D’s 2023 hit “Haegeum” featuring in the latest trailer for Call of Duty: Warzone’s new South Korea-focused season. The trailer offers fans a first look at the upcoming season’s new maps, weapons, and gameplay features, set to the K-pop track. It’s an unexpected inclusion that has brought both Suga’s solo music and enthusiastic BTS fans into the spotlight.

“Haegeum” is the title track from Agust D’s second solo album, D-DAY, released in April 2023. The song’s title actually has a dual meaning, as a traditional Korean two-stringed instrument and as a word referring to lifting a restriction or prohibition. The song uses both meanings to explore the concept of freedom, questioning social expectations, conventional thinking, and the sometimes unseen restrictions that influence people’s daily lives.

Its use as the backing track for a season built around a South Korean setting is all the more apt. The upcoming season, titled Hajin Conflict, will introduce Battle Royale gameplay to a new map set in South Korea. Players will also be able to enter a separate location called Zodiac, designed for Resurgence matches.

Dropping on November 6, the update will introduce changing weather conditions that affect gameplay, including visibility and environmental shifts. Players can enjoy an expanded arsenal, including a Zipline Launcher, allowing them to easily move between rooftops, and a Grabber Drone that can collect loot, environmental objects, and even other players.

The new season will also bring weapons and operators from Modern Warfare 4 into Warzone, alongside new perks, augments, and a progression system. A new training experience will also allow players to familiarize themselves with the game’s mechanics.

It’s a smart launch for Microsoft-owned publisher Activision and plays into the increasing popularity of South Korean music and culture in the global zeitgeist.

Call of Duty: Warzone, a free-to-play battle royale game where players compete in large-scale survival matches by collecting weapons and other equipment while striving to be the last one standing, is launching its new season on November 6.
