November is here, and so is Mariah Carey’s latest “It’s Time” video, featuring a deep cut for longtime fans, alongside a Gucci tie-up for the season.
It’s November, and you know what that means: Mariah Carey is ready to ring in the Christmas season, whether or not we think it’s just a tad too early. This year, the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” star released a video to declare the beginning of the Christmas season featuring a callback to her alt-grunge days.
Donning a pink wig, glittery black lipstick, and cat ears, Mariah is on stage performing her 1995 Chick song “Hermit” in a crowded New York City bar. But as soon as the clock strikes midnight, she dives into the crowd and transforms into what can only be described as her holiday form, perched atop a massive Christmas tree as she sings her classic anthem.
This year, the Queen of Christmas actually has a throne to reclaim after Ella Langley surpassed her record for the longest-running hit on the Billboard Hot 100. “All I Want For Christmas Is You” topped the list for 22 non-consecutive weeks since Christmas 2019, but in September, Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” had been sitting atop the list for 25 non-consecutive weeks since February. To add insult to injury, Carey was snubbed for the third year in a row for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Now, having decreed the beginning of the Christmas season, it’s Carey’s time to shine. Already, her holiday hit has re-entered Spotify’s Top 50 Global at #32—ironically, right above “Choosin’ Texas” at #34. She’s also secured a lucrative spot with Gucci for its holiday campaign this year, having appeared in a short video set to her song.
Mariah Carey is also embarking on a Christmastime Tour, set to hit some major cities worldwide over the next few weeks.
