The standout aspect of this suitcase is its maneuverability; our tester claims it’s the smoothest luggage she’s ever traveled with. It rolls on ball-bearing wheels with cushioned axles, making for effortless movement. “It glides with ease, especially over bumpy floors at the airport and elevator door tracks,” she says. The polycarbonate shell, meanwhile, keeps the suitcase light enough to easily pick up and carry. “It was a breeze to toss into the back of rental cars and place in the overhead compartment,” she says. Carry-on luggage comes in a range of hardside and softside options. A hardside case needs to be both strong and flexible and able absorb impact without cracking. While aluminum is also durable, it’s heavier and more expensive than polycarbonate and can be more prone to denting.
