Ed Sheeran is reportedly signing a deal with Interscope, marking the next step in his career after the singer-songwriter left longtime home Atlantic.

Rumors are bubbling that Ed Sheeran is preparing to sign a deal with Interscope, a move that follows the hit-maker’s recent decision to part ways with his longtime label home at Warner Music Group. The specifics are yet to be revealed, but sources familiar with the matter say it’s a long-term arrangement.

Sheeran was reportedly in talks with both Universal Music Group (parent of Interscope) and Sony Music, with both majors eager to make a bid for the star after he walked away from Warner. Joining UMG will place him among fellow greats Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, and Lady Gaga.

Notably, signing with Interscope will reunite Sheeran with CEO John Janick, who worked with the singer-songwriter at Warner’s Elektra Records.

Ed Sheeran announced his split with Warner Music back in May, stressing that the split was amicable, and his existing catalog under the company would remain with them in a “continued partnership.”

“I leave the company with so much love and gratitude for everything we have achieved together,” Sheeran clarified at the time. “This is a boy who started as a teenager on the company with different priorities, to the father-of-2 man who exists now, who feels like he needs a shift and change in the way he does things professionally.”

“My life is hugely different now to what it was when I was a teenager, and I’ve been feeling in my gut for a long time that a lot of things in my professional life need to change,” he added. “I am, underneath it all, a singer-songwriter who plays pub gigs. And I’ve sorta morphed into this pop star who plays stadiums over 15 years.”

Sheeran is just the latest artist to depart from their longtime label in the last few months. Zara Larsson recently signed a deal with Sony’s RCA after having long been with fellow Sony label Epic Records. Meanwhile, Lorde announced in March that she was an independent artist after her deal with UMG concluded with the release of her fourth album Virgin last year.
