Each year, Coachella and Stagecoach generate a staggering $700 million for California’s local economy, according to Governor Gavin Newsom.

As California continues to lead the nation as a global hub for culture and live events, Governor Gavin Newsom has highlighted the significant economic impact of the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals. Together, the two events generate over $700 million annually for the state’s economy.

“California’s creative economy is an economic engine,” said Governor Newsom. “Events like Coachella and Stagecoach don’t just showcase incredible talent—they power local economies, support small businesses, and reinforce California’s position as the entertainment capital of the world.”

Firstly, these events attract a worldwide audience. In 2025, Coachella saw nearly 250,000 visitors across two consecutive weekends. Those attendees then fill hotels, restaurants, and support other local services to boost California’s local economy.

Both festivals also help support the regional workforce. Each year, they provide over 10,000 temporary jobs across industries that include event production, logistics, hospitality, and other local services.

And it’s not just having a local impact. In 2025, Coachella generated approximately $908 million in Media Impact Value, meaning its global visibility and ability to “shape global trends” serve to amplify California’s creative and live event economy on the world stage.

Coachella 2026 kicked off last Friday with headliner Sabrina Carpenter closing out the first night in a dazzling performance that featured a lot of cameos, including Will Ferrell and Samuel L. Jackson.

Night Two saw Justin Bieber make a highly anticipated return to the stage with an interesting YouTube-browsing mashup, which featured his classic hits as well as new tracks from his latest albums. On the third night, Karol G stunned audiences and also made history as the first Latina artist to headline the festival.

Coachella Weekend Two kicks off tomorrow (April 17) and runs through the weekend. The Stagecoach Music Festival takes place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio from April 24 to April 26. Headlining Stagecoach this year will be Cody Johnson, Lainey Wilson, and Post Malone.
