A feature-length documentary about alt rock band Failure, “Every Time You Lose Your Mind,” is available now on Hulu.

Alternative rock band Failure has finally released its feature-length documentary, “Every Time You Lose Your Mind,” after a decade of creating it. Directed by the band’s Ken Andrews, the film is available to stream via Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. It follows Failure from its inception to breakup and eventual reformation.

“Every Time You Lose Your Mind” features interviews with David Dastmalchian, Margaret Cho, Hayley Williams, Jason Schwartzman, Steve Albini, Tommy Lee, Maynard James Keenan, Butch Vig, Rick Beato, and many more.

The film premiered last Thursday (June 26) at Harmony Gold Theater in Los Angeles, featuring a rare acoustic set from the band. The event saw appearances from Matt Pinfield, Margaret Cho, David Dastmalchian, Julie Edwards (Deep Vally), Troy Sanders (Mastodon), Paul D’Amour (Tool), drummer Josh Freese, Failure alumnus and Queens of the Stone Age member Troy Van Leeuwen, among others.

Despite its otherworldly sound, the Los Angeles band is anchored by the very real friendship between Ken Andrews (vocals, guitar, bass, programming), Greg Edwards (vocals, guitar, bass, keys), and Kellii Scott (drums, percussion).

Failure’s promising rise in the ‘90s was derailed by drug addiction and record company inertia, yet the trio left a profound imprint that extended beyond their time with the LA alt rock scene. “Every Time You Lose Your Mind” documents the band’s origins, downfall, and eventual rebirth.

“Our fans have connected with the themes of depression and addiction in our music,” says Andrews. “The film crystalizes those connections and, ultimately, communicates hope. We’re a band that faced a specific set of challenges and somehow managed to survive and thrive. It’s a story about resilience, finding ways to cope, and not giving up.”

Across the band’s six albums, Failure has intrigued critics, fans, and peers for nearly three decades. Failure has been honored with covers by A Perfect Circle, Paramore, Cave In, Melissa Auf de Maur, and more. Their most recent album, 2021’s Wild Type Droid, was recorded in the midst of the global pandemic.
