France Football magazine has named the 30 players in the running for the 2024 edition of the Ballon d’Or Feminin, currently held by Barcelona and Spain star Aitana Bonmati.
The award recognises the best female player in the world over the past season, with players that won the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona and those that claimed Olympic gold with the United States heavily represented among the nominees.
Ada Hegerberg, the very first recipient of this prize after it was created in 2018, is a contender again thanks to putting previous injury woes behind her and returning to top form with Lyon.
Bonmati will be among the favourites, giving her a chance of matching club-mate Alexia Putellas’ back-to-back wins, while there is likely to be stiff competition from USWNT captain Lindsey Horan and Barcelona colleague Caroline Graham Hansen.
The Ballon d’Or Feminin will be presented to the best female player on 28 October at the annual ceremony at Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
