The 2024/25 UEFA Women’s Champions League begins this week with the first round of group stage fixtures set to take place.
Barclays Women’s Super League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are all set to take part for the time in history.
Barcelona will be looking to make club history themselves by winning their third successive tournament, after winning back-to-back the previous two years.
This will bring them even closer to Lyon, who are the only side to win the Champions League three times in a row, eventually going on to win a total of five.
Chelsea will also be hoping that new head coach Sonia Bompastor’s winning experience in the tournament with Lyon will prove advantageous to them. Their hopes of ever lifting the trophy under Emma Hayes were shattered last year after being knocked-out by eventual winners Barca in the semi-finals.
Arsenal on the other hand will be entering the tournament after missing out last year in a shock exit to Paris FC, whereas Manchester City will be looking to shine after putting in an impressive shift during the 2020/21 season that saw them reach the quarter-finals.
There’s certainly a lot to play for and we can’t wait until the action begins. In the meantime, here’s everything you need to know about the first matchday fixtures.
